2. Introduction
| This firefox extension, as its name says, is initially designed to add one important functionality to firefox, that is, to send the webpage you are currently browsing directly by email to anyone you want. This is a function that firefox is currently missing compared to its counterpart Internet Explorer. You can use this extension to share the webpage with your friends or backup your interested webpages for your own reference. | ||||
| Furthermore, you can send any selected text on the webpage or even your own words by email. You can also send images and attachments with email. From this point of view, this extension is an embedded email sending interface for firefox. | ||||
|
SEE Screenshots for more details. This extension makes use of one of the external email applications including: Thunderbird, SeaMonkey, mailsend (recommended for Gmail users), and sendEmail. You can download these programs for free from their official websites:

| 1. Extensions that can be used together with Send page by email to improve the user experience. |
| There are some handy extensions that can be used together with Send page by email to improve the user experience: a). Repagination: When you want to send a webpage which may span multiple pages, for example, the search results of Google or some webpages on a discussion forum, you may use Repagination to first expand and combine all the webpages in one page and then use Send page by email to send the combined webpage. b). Wired-Marker: When you want to highlight/mark some part of the webpage you are going to send with different colors, you can use Wired-Marker to do that. c). Nuke Anything Enhanced: When you want to remove some part of the webpage you are going to send, for example, some advertisements, you can use Nuke Anything Enhanced to do that. d). Source Editor: When you want to edit the webpage, for example, to change some text on the webpage, before sending it, use Source editor to do that. |
| 2. Show webpages in a decent way in the web-based Gmail interface |
| If you send a webpage to a Gmail account, sometimes the webpage will not display properly or even the content may get twisted in the web-based Gmail interface. You may select "Print" in Options of the email message, which will open up a new window/tab to show the webpage in a more decent way. This may partly solve the problem. The ultimate solution is to download the emails using a local email client such as Thunderbird. Most webpages will show properly as it is on the Internet in a local email client. |
| 3. Use labels and email filters to categorize emails automatically. |
| In the Options of Send page by email, you can specify labels and these labels can be appended to the subject field of the email you are going to send. When you/someone else received these emails they can setup filters in Gmail or local email clients to automatically categorize them in different folders. |
| 4. Resize and adjust the position of the dialog and options windows. |
| You can resize the dialog window by moving the mouse to the right low corner border of the dialog window until the double-side arrow shows and then pressing the left button of your mouse and dragging the window to your desirable size. See the following screenshot: |

| 4. I don't have any email client installed. What is the easiest way to make this extension work? |
| First of all, you have to download the command line email program you like, either mailsend (recommended for Gmail users) or sendEmail from the links provided above. Unzip the program and put the executable file to any place on your hard disk, for example, C:\. Secondly, invoke this extension in Firefox, go to the extension's "Options - Email Settings" Dialog (see screenshot) and specify the path to the email program you have just downloaded by clicking "Locate email programs..." button. Thirdly, fill in your email account information in the extension's "Options - Email Accounts" Dialog (see screenshot). | 5. I am using command line email programs with this extension. But I don't have an email account and I don't know how to setup the email account in this extension. What should I do? |
| The easiest way is to apply for a GMAIL account from www.gmail.com. If you have your gmail account ready, go to the extension's "Options - Email Accounts" Dialog (see screenshot) and select "use default GMAIL SMTP configuration". The neccessary fields will be automatically filled in. All you have to do is to replace the word "#YOUREMAIL#" with your real GMAIL account name. Now you have successfully configured this extension, click "OK" to save the Options and invoke "Send page by email" again to send emails. |
| 6. How do I open the Options Dialog? |
| You can open the Options Dialog in two ways. One is from the Send Email Dialog when you invoke this extension. There is a "Options" button to open Options Dialog (see screenshot). The other one is from the "Tools" menu in the menubar (see screenshot) |
| 7. Why can't I send emails using Gmail account? |
| There are many possibilities: a). Something wrong with the configuration of this extension. Check the extension's "Options - Email Accounts" Dialog (see screenshot) and see the Installation Guide. b). Your emails are regarded as SPAM and therefore rejected by Gmail. Sign in to your own Gmail account to check this possibility. c). there is a possibility that your Internet Service Provider (ISP) blocked the port used to send Gmail. You can go to the command line window of your computer and type "telnet smtp.gmail.com 587". If you cannot get connected, contact your ISP for more information. |
